Small improvements
Monday 08 March 2010 21:59, by Frank Van Laere.
This weekend and today I've added four small new improvements to Pitwall. First of all, country flags should now be loaded much faster.

The second feature is something that is quite interesting. It is now not only possible for drivers to get injured in a racing session, but they can also get injured outside of racing. The injury goes from a flu until death (very very rare, just like racing fatalities, which haven't happened ever since implementation). A very serious injury could sideline a driver for over a season. An injury is handled during the hourupdate, so this can happen at any time in the week.
This should make championships a little more unpredictable, just like in real life (remember Montoya's famous tennis accident).

Another new feature is something that I've been thinking about for quite a while. Ever since we had guest drivers implemented it was quite interesting to see how they fare against other youth drivers. But it was always quite hard to spot the real talents from those who just had a pretty good skill compared to others, just because they had more skill at that time. That didn't necessarily mean that they were more talented, just that they were better at that time.
To overcome this "issue" I've implemented the following: A race form is generated for each driver (youth and main drivers) at the start of the race. Depending on how talented the driver is, this form will be better most of the time compared to a driver who is less talented. It's still possible for a talented driver to have an off day, but it's less likely compared to a bad talented driver (who won't be in form a lot).
This will make the discovering of a talented driver a little simpler, and it's just much more realistic. Talented drivers will always be there on the long run, whilst not so talented drivers might have a race of a year race, but in most other races they'll be average.
This change has already been implemented for last weekends main race. I didn't tell anyone just to see if anyone would notice (*grin*). The influence is not really that big for main drivers, but the influence should be higher for youth drivers as their skills aren't developed that well yet. This form factor does not exist yet in the testing/qualifying sessions, and it wasn't used yet in the youth race of last week as it was only implemented on Saturday evening.

The final new improvement to Pitwall is the proper implementation of the morale drop or raise that a driver can have based on his contract role and his current role. This was never really implemented after implementing the new driver contract system and has finally been implemented.
If the driver has been promised a better position than he is currently seated in, then he will be unhappy and you'll start to see his morale drop. The worse a seat is, the more unhappy he'll be. It works the other way around as well of course.

There, that's all for now! Please share comments in the forum topic, I'll be happy to read them (even if I don't always find the time to reply)!

Pitstop suggestion
Sunday 28 February 2010 22:11, by Frank Van Laere.
A lot of newcomers struggle with deciding on how many mechanics to assign for each pitstop crew, therefore I've decided to give some feedback to the manager on how many mechanics should be a good value on the strategy page.
First of all the pit box space stat gives an indication. Now the head mechanic (if you have one) also gives his opinion on how many mechanics you should assign to each pitstop crew. Depending on the skills of the mechanic, this number will be closer or further away from the real value.

Another change which is upcoming (but since it's related I wanted to mention it) is the way the pitstop crew skill is calculated. Right now it looks up the current values, but that's not quite realistic. Therefore I will change it so that there is a overall mechanic skill stat which is similar to the sponsorship happiness. If you don't invest a lot of time in your mechanic department, then the skill of the mechanics will gradually drop over the weeks. On the other hand, if the skill is low and you invest a lot of time into it, then the skill will rise again. I believe that this system is much more realistic and it will open some new strategic aspects of the game.

De-queuing sponsors
Tuesday 02 February 2010 19:09, by Frank Van Laere.
The issue with sponsors not getting dequeued properly should have been fixed for all future dequeue processes. I have also dequeued all the sponsors who were in the queue while there was an open spot. Please give feedback in this topic if you still have problems.

Sponsorship happiness change
Tuesday 02 February 2010 19:06, by Frank Van Laere.
As was announced earlier, I have made changes to the sponsorship happiness formula. It used to be so that certain teams had a lot of commercials, and a superb commercial director and because of that were able to set their commercial level to something below 10%. That gave them the option to focus completely on designers and mechanics.

I have made changes to the formula so that things like that shouldn't be possible anymore. The commercial level plays a much bigger role in it, and you'll always have to invest some time in that department, otherwise the happiness of your sponsors drops.

I will be monitoring the average happiness level, but I'm confident that this change is for the better, it's much more fair after all.

Merchandise payout moved to hourupdate
Tuesday 26 January 2010 17:57, by Frank Van Laere.
As it seems that the merchandising money payout was used as an exploit for earning more money by some, I have decided to move the merchandise money payout from the dayupdate to the hourupdate.
The changes have taken place immediately, and the first 17 merchandise updates (which are 24 times smaller than the dayupdate of course) have caught up.

Race 5
08 March 2010 · MLHR Thunderbolt: Again a good race from MLHR Thunderbolt. The second podium in a row forced Teammanager Bolt to correct the target for this season. Before the season we only wants to avoid relagation. But after half of the season we are second in the constructor championship, so we try to finish on the podium in this category.
Congratulations to Alvaro Troncoso for his first podium finish in division 1.

Déjà vu!
08 March 2010 · Animal Racing: Would you believe it, for the second season in a row at his home race Animal driver Vertti Vimppa threw away 3rd spot on the very last lap! In doing so he once again finished 4th, bizarrely the same position he has occupied for the last 3 seasons! All this was too much for team boss Tom Bagley who must think he is suffering from a severe case of Déjà vu! The race itself was not a great one for Animal Racing who have somehow slipped back down the championship standings to 3rd place, while this is more of a stumbling block rather than a dead end it will no doubt displease Bagley, the final blow was Vertti being piped to 3rd spot by KRT’s Lanos. However we now have a testing break in the season so Animal will look to refocus and attempt to get on the podium at the next race. In other news rumour has it that Animal have finally managed to get one of their parts rated as the best in the division (100%). We are not sure what part it is but no doubt it will probably not stay at that level for long unless the team start winning some more races!

Contract do make a difference....
06 March 2010 · Canadian Nippon - Vancouver Olympics 2010 F1 Racing Team : After reading ForcePolands press release about their team struggles this year to keep pace with our cars and PLMR, sort of felt good!! Since we knew we had the best car last year but didn't invest in any contracts as we didn't understand all the benefits for having good to mid range contacts. So to see someone else come out and say it the very next year makes our struggles last year feel justified.

"It's quite unbelievable for me - last season we must hold our guys from taking 3-4 victories, now we have problem with scoring podiums. As our car is undoubtedely better I see only one reason for this poor performance - contracts."

"it's interesting to see those comment", added Bouchard,"We stated all of last year that we had the best car but not the best package. We had something like 9 of 13 parts at 100% division ranking but could get close to the front. We stopped development half way through last year to save money to sign contracts as we knew we had to improve the whole package and not just continue developing."

"Simply own-brand and lower class contracts I think are holding us back. I think that the best team in this divison (considering division part ratings) is feeling our breath last days - for them our today's words are proof that we say truth.

"This comment makes me laugh as it tell us who is pushing our development level higher and higher. We figured it wasn't PLMR since we do have similar package this year and we are slightly quicker at the moment. This could change but we figured that Force Poland still had a highly developed car since they were the class of the field last season." chucked Bouchard," Without give to much away we aren't to far off what we had last year, if not further a long then last year at this point."

"We have seen some major improvement on this years cars compared to last years as we have a more balanced car all near the top of division. We expect to continue collecting points and the only thing that will slow us down this year is ourself. Without our big mistake two weeks ago we would be clear by more then 18 points. We hope to continue to build our lead since we are back out in front as well as continue to push our development" commented Bouchard.

"This season is between two Canadian guys." "and it should stay close most of the way ",added Bouchard.
