Hello, I just signed up and not sure how to go about things, should I choose a "as new" team?

Any advice is appreciated.

Hi Mark - welcome to Pitwall! You've made a great start by not being afraid to ask questions - you'll go far! :)

An "As New" team is a team that had a manager before, but has been "reset" to a balance of 1,000,000, with no staff, driver or supplier contracts. This means that it's a blank slate for you to rename and build up from scratch - make the team your own!

All other teams are just as they were when their former manager resigned, with all their driver/staff/supplier contracts still in place - and all their money [or debts!] too. Unless you're confident you'll know what you're getting into, it's probably not worth the risk of taking on one of these teams, as you run the risk of having to deal with someone else's mistakes.

Plus, with teams that are not "As New", there'll always be the sense that your achievements are based on the success of your predecessor, not your own - with an As New team, everything you do will be your own successes [or failures]!

Hope that helps!

Thanks for that, much easier to choose now, as for questions...never learn if you dont ask :)

Any ideas on contracts as such and what I should do regarding them?

This is based purely on my own experience, but I'd urge caution for your first season, until you get more of an idea of what you can afford [once you've paid staff/development costs etc]. Sign Own Brand engines, fuel and brakes - they'll work perfectly fine for a new team's needs and they're free! You'll save so much money that you can use to setup your team and start working on development of the chassis, which is the key to long-term success.

It might be worth considering signing up for a Pointer tyre contract, though - it's 1,000,000 more than Own Brand's 0 cost, but tyre wear is going to be high this season and having more durable tyres will mean you can avoid having to do 4 pitstops for tyres at every race, saving you a chunk of time in the pitlane!

Come next season, when you've got a better idea of what/who you're up against in terms of income and competition from other teams, it might be worth considering more expensive contracts. But the general rule is that most teams in Division 4 won't need to spend millions and millions on contracts - it's more important to invest in developing your chassis!

If I can I will focus on income and making a profit from sponsors before thinking about racing, to me that seems the most beneficial way of making sure I have a healthy profit line.

I will suggest that you try to sign some really bad free drivers for your team since you can sign then for free since most teams don't want them. This will buy you time while you wait to get your sponsorship in place.

Also buy the best commercial head since they pay for themselves over time. Also try to spend money on a major promotion of your new teams cars so that your sponsor happiness with increase right away to open up more income for the team.

Good luck !!

Racing helps to increase the sponsor happiness (especially finishing races) so I would recommend producing reliability parts. This can be found under development. If you want to set up rules so that these parts get automatically produced then you can do so if you go to the production rules link on the right hand side of the development page. Also, producing parts does not cost any money so I would just keep creating them.

It all depends on how much testing you do compared to others. If they do more testing, your parts will take a slight decrease, whereas if you do more, you will gain.

Mark,

Div 4 means I would say go for Own brands for all contracts.. free and best. Save the car during the race, complete the race, get points, earn money and build the car and then think about expenditure.
